Liebe Hörerinnen, liebe Hörer

Einmal mehr habe ich in einen Regalen gestöbert und Melodien aus den 1940er bis in die 1980er Jahre gefunden, die Hälfte davon ab LPs, die Kurt Mettler digitalisiert hat. Die musikalische Reise durch die vergangenen 50 und mehr Jahre beginnt in New York mit „The West moved West“. Dieses Lied erzählt vom Drang westwärts nach Chicago über die grossen Prärien und unwegsamen Rockies zum Pazifischen Ozean. 

Auch ein Lamento über wo denn die alten Moviestars geblieben sind fehlt nicht. Dabei ist allerdings zu erwähnen, dass viele dieser „B-Movie Idole“ in Europa wenig bekannt sein dürften. Doch die damals noch jungen Stattler Brothers stellen die Fragen mit Schwung und Eleganz. Die Reise geht weiter durch die 1950er Jahre mit Country and Western Stars jener Zeit und endet in 1989 mit Michael Martin Murphy, der seine „Kicks on Route 66“ erlebt. 

Jimmy Dean – nicht der Film Starvon „East of Eden“ oder “Sie wissen nicht was sie tun” – sondern thelongtallTexan, TV Personality und Sausage King bringt die Show dann zu Ende mit „I won’tgohuntin‘ withyou Jake‘ but I’llgochacin‘ women“.

Once more I dug into the bottom of the barrel to bring up melodies of the 1940s through the 1980s, I and many of my friends listened to in younger years. Many of these songs come off LPs, carefully digitalized by Kurt Mettler, formerly of DRS Musikwelle, Swiss Radio. The musical journey begins in New York with “The West Moves West”. The song tells the story of the move westward to Chicago, across the wide Missouri, over mountains high to the pacific. 

The Statler Brothersquestion “Whatever happened to Randolph Scott” and a number of other B movie idols I watches as a youngster and apprentice in Kreuzlingen. We move in big leaps into the 1970s and 1980s and show who rock’n’roll moved into Country Music. And Michael Martin Murphy renders his version of “getting his kicks on Route 66”. Finally, long tall Texan Jimmy Dean the Country Singer, Movie and TV Star and successful Sausage King declines to go huntin’ with Jake. Heprefers to go “chasin’’ women”!
